Our thirteenth summer of the DOORS Internship Program is underway! Through virtual workshops, our interns work on goal setting, networking, personal branding, and communication within their fields. We invited our interns to share their experiences this summer.

Meet Sydney Trammell from Taylorsville, North Carolina! Sydney is a rising junior at Appalachian State University, majoring in Social Work.
What does your internship with Leggett entail?
My responsibilities primarily focus on supporting the Credit Department. I scan department files into our shared drive to improve organization and accessibility for credit representatives. I also assist with Terrafix accounts by verifying and updating email addresses and maintaining accurate accounts payable contact information.
What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned so far during your time at Leggett?
The most valuable thing I’ve learned during my time at Leggett is the importance of building strong relationships between the Credit Department and customers. Communicating clearly and professionally helps build trust and ensures that any issues, such as returned mail or outdated information, are handled quickly and efficiently. I’ve also learned the importance of meeting deadlines to keep information accurate and accessible, which is essential for making timely business decisions.
What are your goals through your internship?
Through my internship, I hope to gain valuable office experience and develop a better understanding of how a professional work environment operates. I aim to strengthen my communication, organizational, and time management skills. My goal is to leave this internship with practical experience that will prepare me for my future career.
What has been your favorite part of your internship at Leggett?
My favorite part of my internship at Leggett has been the environment within the Credit Department. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming, making it easy to feel comfortable and confident in my role. Because of this supportive environment, I’ve been able to learn more, ask questions, and grow both personally and professionally.
How will you apply your experience this summer to your career?
Working in an office setting has helped me become more professional, detail-oriented, and confident in handling responsibilities. These skills will directly translate into my future career as a social worker, where effective communication and building trust with clients are essential.
